National Rapidplay Champions
The Wigston team (Martin Burrows, Alan Byron, Walter Dehnen, Phil Horspool) entered the ECF National Rapidplay Championship held at Syston on Saturday 26th September.
The tournament was a 5 round swiss at a time limit of 20 minutes each.
The results of each Round were:
Round 1: Beat Syston 3.5 - 0.5
Round 2: Beat Leighton Buzzard 3 - 1
Round 3: Beat Watford 3 - 1
Round 4: Beat Warwickshire 3 - 1
Round 5: Beat Wanstead 3.5 - 0.5
Wigston finished a clear first, out of 8 teams, with the excellent score of 16/20.
The runners-up were Leighton Buzzard with 13/20.
Individual Scores were: (only 1 game was lost)
Martin Burrows 3.5 ; Alan Byron 4.5 ; Walter Dehnen 3.5 ; Phil Horspool 4.5
The team won a trophy and £80 in Prize money. (The entry fee was £25)
